Okay, now on to LJ. I've pondered a paid account, and I've pondered taking my chances on permanant account sales. Well, what do I spot, but the permanant account sale coming up sometime this month. So I continue to ponder, and wonder if this was *really* a good time for LJ to start that and whether or not I want to even get some sort of paid or permanant account.

Because I would love to have more icons and be able to tweak my layout, but I don't know if I really want to give my money to LJ right now.

Okay, so I pulled most of these off the other review blog and changed them up a little bit for the people who read my blog. There are somethings I won't discuss on a teen blog that I will on my own.

The Game by Diana Wynne Jones )

Magyk by Angie Sage )

Mortal Instruments 1: City of Bones by Cassandra Clare )

Nobody's Princess by Esther Friesner )

Seeker by William Nicholson )

EDITITHINGIE: Okay, obviously the issues with CC are bigger than I previously thought. I totally float on the edges of HP fandom so I missed this originally. So I revise my statement about waiting for the new book be being cautious and a touch skeptical.

Most of these have been done for a while, I'm just lazy. However I do need to get the books themselves back to work eventually.

The Christopher Killer by Alane Ferguson )

The Angel of Death by Alane Ferguson )

Dark Flight Down by Marcus Sedgwick )

Temping Fate by Esther Friesner )

Reading frenzy here. ^_^ Actually, last night was pretty rough. So I stayed up read about 200-250 pages of "New Moon" to tire myself out enough that I would go straight to pass out.

I was up at 6:30-ish this morning (on my day off! ::whinebitchwhine::) so that I could go with my father so that I would know where to pick up my brother from SAT testing. Because I hadn't set foot one in that town in about 10 years, give or take. It burns that in the end, the twit *could* have driven himself, the parking lot wasn't even close to full this time. ::growl::

So while I missed out on painting due to the driving all over the place, I did finally get through Corpse Bride and Ghost in the Shell 2, which makes me want to abuse myself by rewatching 1.

I also got the chance to start Queen of Attolia, and I just have to wonder why I tormented myself working through Montmorency and the Assassins when I could have been following the exploits of Eugenides, the Queen's Thief. It's going much faster, and I should be done with the book by tomorrow evening. Unless I opt to simply pass out after work.

::whines:: I've been covering books at work for the last few month. Silly me, I then read the summary while trying to get the plastic to just the right tightness around the dust jacket.

This has led to me now having a stack of 21 books to read. ;_;

It's times like these I wish I was still doing jury duty. The whole getting up at horrifying times of the morning to drive 45 minutes to New Haven was suprisingly a fabulous way to get through 400+ page book in less than a week. The Federal Marshalls even started asking me every morning about my new book.

Well, I finally finished reading Montmorency and the Assassins. And I just have to say that while I enjoyed the first book, and the second book has some truly enjoyable moments, the third book nearly left me cold. There were too many little, nearly insignificant plot lines to follow and Montmorency didn't do any of the things that made him so very interesting in the first book. However I would be willing to read a fourth book if one ever comes out, if only to have some closure with the death of a rather important character.

And last thing on the book front.... Jim Butcher is putting out a new Dresden book called White Night. Damn you man, I'm still two books behind, and now I find out you wrote a Spiderman novel too. Arg!! I must get that now too, because if anyone can write Spiderman's quirky sense of humor you can.

And now, NUMB3RS!! Weeee!

Here I am, sick as a dog. Which is better than I was even two days ago. Really.

I was so wretched that most days I would get home from work and go to bed. No TV, no computer. Food... Ha! Nothing was even remotely edible. I think I've lived on saltines and plain pasta for nearly a week now.

However I did use the time spent curled up in bed looking pitiful this weekend by digging through the stack of DVDs I've started but not finished and reading the huge pile of books from work.

But on a whim I was scurrying around offical and author maintained sites for some of my favorite authors. I was going to post about how impressed I am with the restoration done to Voltron for the upcoming release of the DVDs, but in light of the news I just dug up, I really can't blather on about that right now. If you're curious though head here and scroll down to the pictures.

Melissa Scott and Lisa Barnett have been a favorite author team of mine for ages. [livejournal.com profile] madamhydra pointed me to their 'Points' series back in like 2000 and I was hooked and waiting, rather impatiently, for the third book.

Then in 2003-ish I noticed an entry on their site that Lisa was in treatment for breast cancer. I didn't think anything of it until Spring 2004 that a cancer cell has sneaked up to her brain. Everything seemed well until this winter when it became apparent that the cancer was winning and the treatments were doing more harm than good.

Now here is where I get a bit angry with myself for some stupid reason. I had been checking Lisa's blog and not seeing any entries past late April in early summer didn't think anything of it, and went back to whatever I was doing. I just checked again tonight and was suprised to see that there still hadn't been any posts. So I popped over to Melissa Scott's blog to see what was up with her, only to find that Lisa died on May 2nd.

I think I'm going to go back and reread the 'Points' books and 'Armor of Light' rather than going through my pile of new stuff.

And I must subject you all to my choice in reading material. Why Teen and Kid's books. Because the most of the same books in adults are either poorly written or poorly hidden bodice rippers. And honestly, I'm tired of sexy man/vampire/other supernatural type molests sexy mortal woman books. So I read kids and teens books. More fun that way, and easier to give the kids at work recommendations that way.

Two review-ish things today. One DVD and one book.

'The Haunting of Alaizabel Cray' by Chris Wooding )

Tactics - DVD 1 )

That's it for now, I'm going to go enjoy the rest of my four day weekend. ::basks in the pure laziness of napping til noon and not bothering to get out of pajamas::

Summer is one of those times of the year that work becomes a madhouse. What with double and triple the number of program, the reading incentive program and people just wanting to get out of the heat.

And it's started way too soon this year. It's supposed to start at the end of June. The END of June. today felt more like a mid-July sorta day with the shear volume of people and program related monkey business. ::dies:: At least jury duty was cancelled for the rest of the week. Sadly I think I make more money going to work.

And on to better things. ^_^

Book Review: Eragon & Eldest by Christopher Paolini )

I'm trying to read the 'Alex Rider Adventures' books right now. Boys in maybe 3rd or 4th grade and up are all over these. I'm not terribly impressed four chapters into the first book, it's a bit too dry for me. Especially since I stopped reading 'Dead Beat' by Jim Butcher, which leaves me snickering at possibly inappropriate moments, to look at these.

I think I'm going to take a break from my ever growing stack of books to work on my website, which as been horrifically ignored. ::weeps for it::
kikotei: I’m toumyu trash (Heero nerds)
On a whim I swung through Jim Butcher's website to see if he had posted anything new or any new books planned. Imagine my surprise to find this. Wheee! Harry in the flesh! Yay! Bianca the Red Court vampire! Hey, where's Murphy...?

Also, new book out in May, 'Proven Guilty'. Damn, Mr. Butcher! I haven't even finished 'Blood Rites' or 'Dead Beat' yet!

Blood Rites is cracking me up, poor Harry owes Thomas the White Court vampire a favor and takes an assignment that has him undercover on the tech crew for a porn movie. ::DED:: Plus that awesome plot twist halfway through.

Hurray!

kikotei: I’m toumyu trash (Saiyuki - Goku - Free)
I'm back into reading books. I hadn't read any books since really, last winter.

I'm not counting tankouban though. I've certainly been reading those as if I were drinking water. ::sheepish:: Would probably explain why I have nearly 500 of them. Both English and Japanese. hehehehe....

I tried reading 'Doctor Illuminatus' last night. I really did, what with the alchemy, and a british author (I have a weakness for british authors, Jacques and Gaiman for example) and all, but the book was really not very interesting. Not to say that it was poorly written, but there was nothing in the first couple of chapters that caught my interest. Apparently the author also writes nonfiction, and honestly that's what it feels like. A cold and impersonal accounting of a story.

So I decided to snag acopy of 'The Game' instead, which is part of my other weakness. Sherlock Holmes stories. This particular author has written a number of tales about Holmes in his 50s and 60s, with a female partner. I kinda fell out of the series after Mary (gah! she's a Sue!) and Holmes got hitched. The three books that happen before they get married are great. 'The Beekeeper's Apprentice', 'A Monstrous Regiment of Women', and 'Oh! Jerusalem' were fun reads with Mary learning the detective trade and trying to prove that she's as smart and talented as any man. The following three or four are not so good. Six chapters in, and I'm still reasonably interested despite the whole marriage thing. But we'll see.

Today is a good day to clean. Yep. Temperature's well within comfort levels. Decent breeze.

I'm really no where near done, but I'm making significant progress.

Done:
-2 boxes of empty DVD keepcases sealed and bagged for the attic.
-Laundry removed to the laundry room.
-CDs put away
-Work bag ready for Wednesday
-graphic novels and manga reorganized to get like multi-volume titles together
-Fanart and pictures from photography class put away

To Be Done:
-Take Rayearth tapes to work to donate for Teen Department.
-Strip down old mangazines.
-Figure out what to do with my old text books.

More than likely I'm going to sell my old books to that site that buys and sells used college texts, the name escapes me at the moment. But if anyone is interested in these before I ditch them, I'm more than willing to sell them dirt cheap + shipping costs.

I've got philosophy, history, literature anthologies, communications, anthropology, physics, child development, management, health, geography, spanish and math.

Yeah, I was an ILS student. They make us dabble in as many subjects as they can find. No wonder it took me so long to finish.
