Children of the Lamp 1 by P.B. Kerr
Two words. Don't bother. Completely derivative. The twins are basically Mary and Marty Sue. The perfect children. With Powers.
Teen
Chronicles of Ancient Darkness - Wolf Brother by Michelle Paver
Set in world before recorded history (I can't timeline it, I don't remember the weapons all that well to place it) Torak is suddenly orphaned when his father is killed by the demon bear, an animal possessed by an evil spirit. Fleeing, Torak finds Wolf, a young cub orphaned just as suddenly by a flood. Now the two travel together on a quest to stop the bear and restore balance to the clans.
You. Must. Pick. This. Up. I couldn't put the book down. I started it the last day or two I was in Tokyo and finished it before I even made it off the plane. There are two other books in the series. Sadly I can't recall the titles at the moment, the books are in my car and it's too late to go out and get them.
Juvenile/Teen
The Warrior Heir by Cinda Williams Chima
It's a secret world of sorcerers, enchanters and warriors. It's also a secret war waged between the White Rose clan and the Red Rose clan that has been dragging on for centuries. However all the fighting is done by the warriors only, the other groups are not allowed to overtly attack one another. But after all this time most of the warriors are dead, either killed in battle or assassinated by a rival clan. Now Jack is thrown in the middle of this vicious world, barely knowing who is friend or foe, but is Jack really the Warrior Heir or an aberration of medical experimentation.
Okay, I hate to say it for such a cheesy sounding book, but it was pretty decent. Especially for a first novel from this author. Sadly though I picked up on the plot twist for how the book would end by the middle of this 426 page monstrosity. I say pick it up if you've got nothing better to do.
