Well, mostly good news. Scary, but not nearly as bad as I thought.

The sore next to the lumpy tumor that she's had for years was abscessed, which explains the licking the fur off and the puss. The vet cleared it out as best she could and flushed the site. She was concerned that she got bit or fell into a barbed wire fence, but she's not an outside cat (hasn't been since October) so the only way she could have gotten an injury is if she got into a knock down drag out fight with my brother's cat while we were out.

The massive weight loss is still a huge concern. She's dropped three pounds, which she couldn't afford to lose in the first place. Which puts her at about 4.8 pounds. Scary!

So I've got the flush solution and a bottle of liquid antibiotics to subject give to her twice a day. If that doesn't start to resolve her weight, then the vet wants to run a blood test and see if her other thought of thyroid problems is the answer. Because the weight loss and voracious appetite are red flags to her apparently.

Anyway, I have one possible solution to my kitty's problems in hand. I feel considerably better.

Me too. Vet visits are traumatic anyway, this was far far worse. Although right now she's super pissed at me. Being forced to endure clippers and the flush were apparently too much. So she's avoiding me. ^_^;;;

Pear-chan'll get over it, only then she'll be pissed at you for the flushing and the antibiotics. ^_~ She'll get over that too, once she's feeling better. Keep us posted!

Yeah, I haven't seen her in two hours since I gave her the first round of antibiotics. Fun fun. 9_9

I will indeed keep everyone updated.

Poor Kitty! I totally understand how you feel, since Panda has had his share of problems that have sent me into a tizzy.

I really hope this helps speed along her recovery. ^.^ *hugs*

Same here. And I know what a trouble maker Panda has been. ^_^

We just did the first dose of the antibiotic. heh. I'm definately gonna need another pair of hands for each dose and use of the flush. I'm almost tempted not to use the flush and let her take care of cleaning it. Especially now that the vet cut out all the matted hair.

BTW: did the art show up?

*heh* Yeah, it takes 2 grown adults to medicate Panda, so I'm not surprised that medicating the kitty is a multiple person job. It's amazing how much something so small can squirm!

Yup! Art showed up this afternoon, actually! So, how much do I owe you?

Squirmy little beasts. I tried doing the meds myself this morning. Heh, took two attempts and I still don't think I got the full dose in her.

If I did the math right... $25. But I would still double check that. I'm not known for my morning math skills.

We've done that one. Kisa had a pretty large abscess on her neck a few years ago we had to take her in and have operated on just in case there was a tumor.

I hope this helps your kitten. *snugs*

Me too. ::hugs::

This cat caused me more medical concerns and time at the local veterinary hospital than any other pet I have *ever* had. ::laughs::

Poor kitty! It's good that at least there's an identifiable problem to treat; hopefully the flushing and antibiotics will clear things up and she can start packing weight on again. (Better that than having to deal with thyroid problems.)

Best wishes for kitty, despite the horrible indignity of being manhandled for medicine (the horror, the horror).

I'm hoping the antibiotics clears all this up. The attempts at just giving her those are not pretty. Tried doing it myself this morning. The first attempt ended up on the floor and I'm not sure if I got the full second in her. ^__^;;

You got indignity right. Sheesh. You would thing I was murdering her the way she squirms and fights.

Oh, I hope that the treatment sorts the abscess out for your cat and that you are able to get to the cause of her weight loss soon *hugs*!
