Crazy Anime Viewing Needs

I was suddenly struck with a desire to rewatch the Escaflowne series. ^_^;;

While the romance is not my thing (I'm more interested in relationships that are mostly subtext), there's enough mecha in it to keep me interested. Because when the chips are down, I pick explosions over hearts anyday.

This desire to rewatch it has probably been sparked by all the rereleases of classic and old school anime in WAY affordable slim packs. Voltron (oh the dork love of it, those lovely tin lion boxes), Tekkaman Blade, Slayers, Ranma 1/2... hmm, I may bring up Slayers for my anime club. Self, note that!

While the kids would probably enjoy Ranma, I can't recall how rampant the nudity is in the anime versus the manga. And they're the ones that call me on it. Weird. For example, they were watching the X movie for a summer marathon. They didn't watch it watch it for the scene in the beginning with the birth of the sword. And this group is mostly boys!

Well, back to Escaflowne!

It's all about the nostalgia. It's nice to recapture that feeling of when everything about anime was new and awesome (even if perhaps in hindsight it wasn't) and didn't even know what a fenbrat was to be worried about it. XD

Man, to go back to '95 when anime was this sparkly new thing and all I could get my hands on was Akira, but I still rented it over and over again. heheh.
