Town politics suck ass

I'm ready to cry or throw in the towel with this effin' job.

I've been getting commission for over a year to do the website. And it was a nice commission. Twice what I'm making at my normal job. Not within the range of what most web designers can ask for, but better than the peanuts I was making.

Now after nearly getting caught essentially paying me under the table, the treasurer has decided that I can't be paid on commission any more. I think they want to give me comp time instead of paying me, but comp is worthless. It's basically paid vacation. And I thought I already taught them a lesson by stocking up my comp hours to a very, very obscene amount. I think the other route they want to take is when they give me my new hours they won't pay me extra for the website.

I've got a tentative meeting with our director tomorrow (because I'm not the only one affected by this) and I've decided I'm putting my foot down on this matter. Either they find a way to pay me for this, or I do nothing.

Absolutely!

People get paid for this, and I'd like to see them try to find someone to do the website withOUT getting paid for the time and work. Ha! The fact that they weren't reporting what they were paying you, is not YOUR problem.

That's pretty much the exact stance I'm taking tomorrow. It's not my fault that the treasurer nearly got caught with his pants around his ankles. He finds a solution that gets my paid my $20/hour (which is a bargain for webdesign and maintenance) or nothing gets done.

Precisely... getting a certified webdesigner or sysadmin for $20 an hour is a steal. It is definitely the treasurer's responsibility to see that your payment is recorded and reported for the work you are doing. It's not like you were insisting you be paid under the table... after all, that gets both of you in trouble.

Sounds like the treasurer is just a dipshit.

And the lack of certification is the only reason I don't ask for more. The closest I have is an associates in multimedia tech.

Good for you! I think you should. IT's not in your job description and it takes a LOT of time to do web pages.
