3-4 hours of sleep is so not enough
Jun. 22nd, 2005 03:09 pmIt's thundering, but I don't wanna get off the computer. And it still sounds far enough away that I'm not going to rush.
Anyway, I really wish I'd called out of work this morning. I got *no* sleep last night. 1:30am rolled around and I admitted defeat and shut the TV off. 3:00am rolled around and I turned the TV back on because the wheels would just not stop turning. 4:30am reared it's ugly head and I still wasn't tired and I was supposed to be up at 7:30-ish for work. After that, the last thing I recall is 4:50am. Whether I actually slept or dozed, I'm not sure. But I do know that Mom barged in and made enough noise to wake me up at about 6:00.
So now I'm trying to get some caffeine into my system so I can make it through the rest of the day. At least I'm done with work for today.
Also, I've been rewatching Hikaru no Go, and fic ideas are eating my brain. Especially the Touyas. Touya Meijin and Akira are planting evil little ideas. Ideas that are to fast for me to squish.
And now for a meme, pilfered from

Sadly this series is so hard to explain. You tell people it's about a board game and they look at you like you've lost it.
It's a manga/anime about a 12 year old boy named Hikaru, who is pretty ordinary. One day he heads to his grandfather's house. Hikaru, going through the attic to find something to sell, his allowance was taken away for his grades, finds an old Go board. When he looks at it he sees old blood and water stains that won't come off. Suddenly, because he can see he stains, Hikaru finds himself with a ghost from the Heien era that only he can see or hear. Sai, the ghost who was a Go master, convinces Hikaru to play Go from time to time. The first time he play he meets Akira. Sai playing through Hikaru, beats the pants of Akira. Akira, who is also 12, can't understand why seeing as he's only a few years away from becoming a pro go player. This starts a rather obsessive cycle between them of Akira trying to beat 'Sai' and Hikaru, who is impressed that a kid his own age is so serious about something, wants to beat Akira without Sai's help. Both eventually become pros, calling each other their eternal rivals. But all does not go so well for Hikaru. I won't spoil what happens, but I can't make it through vols 15 & 17 of the manga or a handful of the last 25 eps without crying hysterically. The series is long and involved with a ton of really great side characters that you end up loving just as much as the main characters. The whole thing finally ends when the boys are about 17-18.
Err, hope that explains it well enough. ^_^;;;
-Dresden Files
A fantastic fantasy-ish series that I call 'Harry Potter for Adults'. It follows a wizard named Harry Dresden (named after Houdini) as he tries to make a living without getting offed by supernatural and magical baddies (and even some of the good guys) in Chicago. Harry responds to all the weirdness in his life with 'inappropriate sarcasm'. The books are hard to put down and it's hard not to laugh out loud at the situations Harry gets himself into. There are seve books so far. Storm Front, Fool Moon, Grave Peril, Summer Knight, Death Masks, Blood Rites, and Dead Beat.

She's on that list of m/m scifi. I love her fantasy novels. Point of Hopes and Point of Dreams. They take place in a world that looks like Renaissance France, but women have the vast majority of political and finacially power in the country. And the government encourages same sex relationships prior to marriage to help control population growth. The books follow a detective of sorts as he gets tangled up in very big cases. In Hopes it's kids being kidnapped and in Dreams it's people dying in very unusual manners in the theater. The relationship between Rathe (the detective) and Eslingen (a former soldier he meets in Hopes) is very quiet and grows very slowly.
