WTF! Continuity errors abound
Jun. 9th, 2004 02:59 pmI've noticed over the last couple of years, and even more so in the 6 to 12 months, that directors and their peons are paying less and less attention to details and continuity.
Ages and ages ago I used to be a film major. I was going pack myself off to California and work as an Assitant Director or whatever I could get. Something detail orientated. I done it on a number of low budget (extremely low) projects through my high school TV studio. So over the years I had trained myself to be able to keep track of little details.
The last few films I've gone to see have more continuity errors than I've seen in many years. Hell, even Lord of the Rings fell victim to continuity problems.
Here are some of the recent ones I've seen that had wicked errors that just grated on my nerves. Some spoilers may be here. Most of these films have been out for a while.
Film: Lord of the Rings: Fellowship of the Ring
Scene: Bormir's death
Error: Bormir's arm while he's holding on to Aragorn switches from scene to scene. 'hmm, I'll clutch at you with my left arm... Nah, right works better. Oh hell, left is really the better one.'
Film: Hellboy
Scene: Post Hellboy's fight with the first hell-hound thingie.
Error: Agent Meyers had some pretty nasty abrasions on his arm following the fight. Gone by the time he's serving Hellboy breakfast.
Fixit: Could be explained by the passage of time. No timeline was established for the time between the fight and breakfast.
Film: Punisher
Scene: About one every 10 minutes
Error: If you missed some of those gaping errors you need to watch the film again. I might have actually enjoyed the film had there not been so many.
Film: Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban
Scene: Several scenes with Harry
Error: His bloody scar kept moving. It was like watching a Mel Brooks movie. "Wasn't your mole on the other side of your face?"
Those are the ones off the top of my head. I know quite a number of others.

Date: 2004-06-10 01:48 pm (UTC)As for the scar I had to stop myself from falling out of my chair laughing when I saw it. What a goofy mistake to make. Some one just wasn't paying attention. ::sigh:: And it's not like with today's technology that a little computer fiddling couldn't fix it.....
::sigh::

Ron: wasn't your scar... on the other side?
Harry: O.O I have a SCAR!?!?!
